NZAMM 2020 Mini-Conference Wrap Up

The NZAMM 2020 conference was held at the James Cook Grand Chancellor Hotel in Wellington between the 3nd and 4th of October 2020 and was hosted by Musculoskeletal Medicine Specialist Dr Stu Thomson. In order to protect the safety of attendees and the community during the global pandemic, the 2020 conference had been delayed. Everyone was very grateful to have had the opportunity to soak up new knowledge and skills during alert level 1. Attendees came from all over the country from Whangarei in the north, down to Te Anau in the south.

The themes were tendon pathology of the lower limb, the use of ultrasound at point of care, and platelet rich plasma injections. The conference was preceded by a retreat on the 2nd of October where we had the AGMs for NZAMM and the AFMM.

The speakers were Dr Zaid Matti, Mr Bruce Twaddle, Dr Iain Bell, and Prof Jill Cook. Professor Cook presented via video conferencing from Melbourne. Deborah Stanley from SonoSite facilitated the use of SonoSite ultrasound machines.

Most of the Musculoskeletal Medicine registrars were present as they continue their training journey together. We also welcomed newly minted specialist Dr Zoe Quinn who is running a Musculoskeletal Medicine clinic in Palmerston North.

Dr Thomson’s blues band gave a stunning performance during the conference dinner.
